Coming home from Frank's Great Outdoors I stopped in. Very Good! I liked the hotdogs here better than the place next door. Nice looking dining room. All hotdog lovers must eat here sat last once. I got two chili dogs with cheese onion & mustard. FYI - parking for free seems like a no go around there. I parked in a parking garage right across the street . It was all done on my phone & cost me $10 for 40 minutes. Looked like the street was pay too.

This place is an institution. Lafayette is the standard by which i evaluate Coney Island hot dogs. My order has not changed in years, 2 on 1, chili fries and a vernors...heaven. I see some reviews criticizing the service or cleanliness of the place. ..Too bad. the food is consistently amazing and nothing other than a few pics on the wall and the fact that they finally take credit cards, has changed in years. That's a good thing. If you really want to enhance your experience, sit at the counter and enjoy the symphony of orders being shouted to the grill man and the dance of the guys running plates out to diners.

I'm not here to debate the old American v. Lafayette feud. They both are what they are... Good! Took my boys to Lafayette for their first time. They went in with low expectations and came out with a smile, a full belly, and a little chili on their shirts. Coneys were as good as usually. Service was quick. It's not fancy or really that clean... but it's super delicious. Enjoy!

Simply the best in the business. Dogs are the best. It's an iconic place that takes you back to much simpler times.

During our trip to Detroit, we came to find that the Coney Dog is a big delicacy along with the Detroit style pizza. It's apparently a sabrett, skin on, grilled hot dog in a steamed bun with mustard, onions and their chili. We opted to eat inside. Like most hot dog joints that are worth anything in NJ, the inside is very blasé. Service was excellent and very quick. With that said..... the bathroom was VERY rough.. Personally, I didn't mind but I can see how it could be a little unsettling. The hot dog was very good. Chili had good flavor and the quality of the dog was excellent. A great pre-game or post game pit stop.

Another instance where I wish Yelp let us do half-star reviews! I'd give Lafayette Coney Island 3.5 stars -- it's slightly better than American Coney Island, in my opinion. I only compare the two because the two hot dog joints are located next to each other and are owned by brothers, so there's a (real or imaginary) rivalry between these two restaurants with almost identical menus. Chili cheese fries are my thing, so I ordered some. The chili was really good, and the whole meal was sloppy and messy, like an order of chili cheese fries should be. One of the great things about Lafayette is that it's a smaller, more cozy place, with an old-timer feel. The people who work there look and act like they've worked there for decades, and they make you feel at home. This is a nice little spot to grab a Coney or chili cheese fries in Detroit.
